Single and Ready to Mingle on the Month of Love? Here’s What Not to Do & Not to Text
Being single on Valentine’s Day can be a mix of emotions. For some, it’s a day full of self-love, while for others it’s just another day that reminds them of their singledom status. Being single has its perks and if you use the day wisely, you can create some awesome memories. Of course, there are certain things that one should avoid if they want to make the most out of their Valentine’s Day as a single person. Read on for what NOT to do when you’re single this Valentines.
Don’t Text Your Ex
It may feel like the easiest thing to do when you are feeling lonely and missing your ex, but trust us – they will most likely feel uncomfortable receiving a message from you. If you want to stay friends with your ex, then by all means send them a friendly “Happy V-Day!” text but if not - put down the phone!
Don't compare your situation with others
Everyone has different experiences with love and relationships, so comparing your own experience with others' is not productive or helpful. Just because someone else may be happily coupled up does not mean that your life is any less meaningful or valid than theirs. Embrace your independence and remember that being single is nothing to be ashamed of!
Don't Send A Drunk Text
We have all been there – scrolling through our phone contacts list late at night after having one too many glasses of wine and deciding that now is the perfect time for a drunk text…don't do it! Even if you think that sending an out-of-the-blue text might make that special someone like you more - chances are it will only make things worse for both of you so don't risk it!
Don't wallow in self-pity
Yes, being single on Valentine's Day can be tough, but wallowing in self-pity is not going to help matters any. Instead, focus on all the great things about being single! You don't have to worry about finding the perfect gift for your significant other or fighting over who gets the remote control - instead, you get to enjoy the freedom and flexibility of being single without any strings attached.
Don’t Text A Crush You Haven't Talked To In A While
This one may seem obvious but if you haven’t spoken to your crush in weeks (or months!) then don’t bother sending them a “Hey beautiful/handsome ;-) ” text. Instead try your luck with someone else who has been responding to your texts and is actually interested in getting to know you better.
Valentine's Day doesn't have to be a downer just because you're single--in fact, it can be an amazing opportunity for self-care and reflection! Treat yourself (and maybe even your friends) out for dinner or get tickets for a concert; whatever makes YOU happy this Valentine's Day. Just remember - no matter how tempting it might be - avoid sending any unwanted texts and enjoy being single this V-Day!
